In the particular is contained the universal - James Joyce
I began writing fiction several years ago following a career as a Reuters journalist, corporate communications manager and speechwriter for technology, financial services and energy companies.
I’m drawn to short fiction because I love the opportunity it provides to take chances, and experiment with narrative, character, voice and sense of place. I don’t consider my work autobiographical, but like most fiction writers, that which I’ve seen and experienced throughout my life is present in some way in all my stories. To read my published work and learn about recently accepted stories, please see the Stories page.
I grew up in the Catskill Mountains of New York and have lived in Massachusetts, Vermont, Arizona and New York City, and worked as a journalist in Central America. I currently live in the Bay Area with my wife Kathy. Our daughter Amelia is a college student in New York City.
I’ve been a board member of the San Francisco Peninsula branch of the California Writers Club since 2022.
